UPDATE: 6.24.10
Sooo, we thought about quantifying, and especially the friends at the #quantifiedself meetup who would loooove to get their 10 prehensile digits (we hope) on this sort of feature.
But then we looked at how people are already “sort of” quantifying activity on Get Up and Move, and what seems to matter to y’all.
We found out it looks like you really puffy heart knowing how likely a person is to do his/her part if you put out some action too.
So we added some nifty Ajaxy buttons (they’re nifty Easter Egg in Miami Springtime light purple with magenta – or something – outlines).
These will tell you how many challenges a user has completed, waiting, and hidden – as long as they have a public profile.
We’re also gnoshing on a potential API. Shazaam!!

I can haz media integration?
From what I can see, there isn't media integration(photos, videos, etc. that show except for a link). If I do a really dorky challenge, I would want the world( and the challenger) to see what I do in the name of micro-fitness.
Also being able to port the images to a facebook album or being able to create photo albums on my profile for everyones viewing pleasure would be AWESOME. Instead of lame and boring vacation photos, people can now see the potentially awkward things people do to getupandmove...oh wait. I meant how imoveyou to do dorky things.

Hey lady, knew you’d be a power user from moment one. This is a great idea.
In the spirit of ‘microchoices’ and ‘microfitness’ I’d probably try to squeak us by with ‘microprizes’ … at least until we can get a big daddy friendly sponsor type :).
What kind of stuff would you want to win? Tee shirts? Small swag? Virtual goods? Points? A trophy a la Foursquare? Maven of movement?

Popular challenges?
Okay here's the scoop. What if on the user's profile, Imoveyou showed their most popular challenges that they have sent, ANNNND received? Crazy, nah. Cool, hella.
There would also be the option to quickly challenge them by doing their fav/popular challenges.

Integrate with Remember The Milk
First of what I think we should have is an optional deadline setting, perhaps with some type of reminder. This will be great for long term challenge or those that takes a while to complete.
I think integrating with Remember The Milk (a pretty comprehensive todo service) would be great for it. I haven't really look at their api, so I don't know how much control you get though.

Hola Minh-
Thanks for turning us on to Remember the Milk. I’d actually not seen the app before and darned if I’m not gonna kick the tires.
We’ve been consciously avoiding giving imoveyou (and it’s earlier cousin getupandmove.me) too much of a ‘must do’ or ‘to do’ oriented feel, but maybe it’s time to think about moving past our founder prejudices against to-do lists.
After all, what did deadlines ever do to us except remind us they’re passing us by?
Optional deadline setting sounds like a nifty in between solution – we’ve been afeared to alienate early users for whom 5 more minutes of movement a day is a significant delta.
How about if we put this on your settings page as an option? Would that work or be too ‘hidden?’
Also, have to admit I’m fascinated by the motivation for wanting a deadline that counts down to when you… more

ability to add challenges to other calendar based events
there are already places in facebook and myspace where you an rsp to an event - would be nice if someone you could like physical activity to those events - concerts, raves, dances etc

UPDATE 12.30.09
Hola -
Just to let you know you typed, we listened.
Several of our initial ‘guammie’ members are clamoring for the ability to calendar challenges, send set reminders, and ‘snooze’ a challenge if, say, they can’t complete it til home from work.
Look for these features in version 6.0, which should be coming in your way in February.
We’re remaining committed to keeping this social, so we’re going through invite systems now to see what works and what doesn’t.

I’m giving this 2 of my own votes, which I parcel out like Santa giving lumps of coal to bad kids. (Wait, does that mean frequently, or infrequently? Anywho…)
Excellent idea.
The microfitness concept we’ve started with was intended to allow people to do random acts of ‘flash fitness’ in the moment, rather than having to add them to a calendar (which we thought… more

Blackberry and iPhone apps
I'm sure you'll be doing these someday but didn't see them on the list.
When I'm out pounding the pavement it'd be a lot easier to log the challenge when it's done, not wait till I'm online.

Let people know when your "tank is full" for a certain activity ie tired of pushups for today!
I've seriously done 5 minutes of pushups today and my arms feel like wet spaghetti noodles.
Which is awesome, considering. Also, thinking about that makes me want some spaghetti...mmm. Noodles.
But I digress. Think it would be nifty to have a way to set 'upper limits' and 'outer limits' for challenges.
IE I can run for 30 minutes, but the ole' gimp right knee/ankle can't take much more pounding than that per day, and I don't want friends who challenge me to have their quests go uncompleted because I've got a jive turkey leg.

Create a better first user experience
Hi guys, after logging in for the first time via my Twitter account, I landed on a pretty empty looking page - I was pretty lost about what to do next.
There's a blog post about this called "The Blank Slate" that I found helpful when thinking through this problem.

...It's a dare site...step it up a notch...
People are mostly challenging themselves, and with things like drinking water and running...really boring...it's public...lets get people doing things that are actually interesting to read about. You know, drinking at work, two chicks at the same time, debauchery...more awesome, less suck.

Hoi More Awesome-
Nice handle ;).
You bring up an interesting point – while virtuous actions may be helpful for the folks who need social pressure to do ’em, they might come across as pretty darn white bread (excuse the expression) for the rest of us.
imoveyou.com wasn’t built as a site for lurking. As you point out, there’s really no incentive to come use it unless there’s something you want to do that’s better for you.
Now that you mention it, I can see where an aspirational platform such as the one we’ve got going might be kind of boring to the voyeuristic among us…
But your comment also kind of illuminates the point of the site…generating self awareness and moving users to act.
If you look at what other folks are having a tough time doing moving from ‘intent’ to ‘action,’ and judge whether or not it’s a… more

notify should be a front page feature for any challenge
After I have created the challenge I want to be able to easily get to the notification button because honestly it's easy to miss on the first pass and there isn't a really obvious way to get it back. Maybe a reminder button on a challenge that will post wall reminders for those who: 1. haven't left the challenge, 2. haven't completed the challenge, 3. haven't joined the challenge yet but also haven't recieved a wall post yet.

Grab data from HealthVault or PolarPersonalTrainer etc
I record steps into HealthVault or HRM stats into PolarPersonalTrainer. I record some data (via twitter) to http://gtftr.com ... would be neat to be able to select a challenge and a metric from a PHR and have it auto-confirm a challenge is complete
(eg I may be challenged to walk 10k steps in a day... don't take my word, read my pedometer data!)

Biometric tracksing it wants-ss hmmm?
My precious, we are working to lock up pilots with some of the device makers.
This is a sticky hardware/software integration. It’s sort of like Ireland and Northern Ireland. Tough, but not impossible to unite.
That said, an API that lets other developers work with this would be sorta nifty hmm?
Rubs chin-
:)JenHola offbeatmammal -
Integrating personal biometrics or ‘Me-trics’ tracked via devices and personal health platforms is something we definitely want to be able to do ‘when we grow up.’ :)
For now the integration with PHR platforms is what we call a ‘long’ term goal, meaning we hope to be working on integration by the end of Q1.
We’ll definitely move more quickly on this if we can…
Another issue here is to verify the movement in order to load into the PHR semi-automagically. If we build a… more

implement foul language filter or user post blocking
I noticed today that there were a few challenges describing physical activities that, while I am a fan, do not necessarily belong on a website my kids might be able to get to. Maybe there should be a way to block a user from my view of the public stream, or really any page I visit, essentially like an ignore list.

first thought when i hit the site was "huh"?! what can I do here (and if I issue a challenge what happens next)

Hey Susan, offbeatmammal -
Nice to see two of our superusers commenting on the same issue – makes it easier for us to know you’re on to something!
We don’t want to ‘clutter’ up the page with an FAQ – one of our guiding principles is that, as @shazow says, users should be able to – ideally – just arrive at getupandmove.me and start using.
Now, as we roll out more features and functionality in future versions the whole animal gets more complex.
That makes it VERY challenging to design something so intuitive you can package it and roll it out without some sort of operating manual.
We may have to include this in the future, but as you can probably tell, we’re fighting it…

Oganized event challenges
how about incorporating organized events like relay for life, run for the cure; "my town, your town"?

@susanlindsey helloooo Chief Nursing Officer!
This is an excellent idea. Excellent. Magnifique. If I knew more synonyms without pulling out Thesaurus.com I’d use ’em here…
Adding this option (‘event based challenges’) reminds me of when you and I used to do the Race for the Cures together in Philly.
I’d love to enable that feeling of connection and co-movement from halfway across the country. It’d be like synchronized fitness, and for a good cause to boot.
@shazow, I’m a huge fan…

Why hello Y=X,
Nice point of origin.
We’ve looked at two options for integrating txt/SMS challenge notifications and reminders so far: Eliza (a health company out of Boston) and Twilio.
Each has costs associated, and so we’re trying to find a partner who will ‘sponsor’ SMS integration for a pilot.
Alternately, we could keep the site free but pass the cost of receiving the SMS messages along to our users, but we figured that’d cause WWIII.
If you know of any other services we should evaluate, we’re all ears.
Got a question for you…
Would you be willing to pay for your own SMS messages related to imoveyou.com challenges?
We’re not actually sure how our users feel about this…but we suspect only about 10-15% would be willing to pay for this aspect of the service.
We could be wrong though – wouldn’t be the first time (nor, dare… more

Dear offbeatmammal -
This. Is. AWESOME.
We definitely support this kind of thing – ‘leveling up’ to a larger challenge that supports someone other than the guammies participating.
We’re looking at ways to integrate micropayments/virtual goods and microfinance philanthropy options.
To give you an idea of where we are in the process, our version 2.0 is live, and we offered unscripted challenges.
The next step is version 3.0 (mid January release) which will integrate Facebook and make some other small user experience improvements.
At version 4.0, ie the end of this month, we’ll have group challenges but may not have the best way to donate in a legitimate, verifiable way figured out…that may take us a bit longer, as will establishing a profile that let’s you track weekly checkins.
A quick question on that – we think the differentiating factor for getupandmove.me is that we’re working more on the… more
